110 MPs Sign Motion to Impeach Linturi

Thursday, April 26, 2024 –Agriculture Cabinet Secretary CS Mithika Linturi could be impeached from office if the motion introduced in Parliament sails through the floor.

Bumula Member of Parliament Jack Wamboka, on Thursday, April 25, introduced a motion of impeachment against the CS citing the fertiliser scandal as key in this move.

This was revealed through a press briefing held on Wednesday where the Western-based MP also mentioned the fake sugar scandal.

“As we speak today, in light of the recent events, it is with deep concern that I announce the introduction of a motion to impeach CS Linturi,” Wamboka remarked.

According to MP Wamboka, two major scandals have taken place under the watch of Mithika Limnturi; hence highlighting his incompetency to serve the people.

MP Wamboka has since announced that, so far, he has managed to gather atleast 110 signatures from colleagues supporting Mithika’s removal from office.

“You’re well aware of the happenings in this country and the fertiliser scandal and what we have been experiencing, the drama around it. This is not the first time we’ve had scandals around CS Linturi. I want to draw your attention to the sugar scandal where sugar imported was not fit for human consumption and it was released to the public,” he stated.

He noted that should the list be approved, the motion will be presented to the House for debate, and lawmakers will have a say on the matter and decide the CS’s fate.

Charges listed by Wamboka include gross violation of the Constitution, gross misconduct and breach of public trust.

“The motion is rooted in gross misconduct, violation of constitutional provisions and serious breaches of public trust. The evidence presented before the Assembly paints a distressing picture of negligence, mismanagement and potential criminal activities within his ministry.”

The lawmaker called for his colleagues to back his motion for the entire process, citing that the CS has failed Kenyans on matters food security, trust and governance.
