Government of Kenya received a whopping sh 223 billion in their bid to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
But from what the Daily Nation has investigated and gathered, tenders were awarded carelessly to briefcase traders without following due process as required by law.
In a detailed expose reported by the publication, 12 briefcase firms were awarded contracts worth sh 3 billion by Kemsa. They were required to deliver medical supplies to fight Covid-19 pandemic. But in the process they were awarded irregular bids due to favoritism.
It has been revealed that a 22 year old lady going by the name of Ivy Minyow Onyango who rushed to register her company Kiling Limited is among the top beneficiaries of the heist.
That weeks later, her enterprise was quickly awarded sh 4 billion tender to supply hundreds of thousands of Personal Protective Equipment PPEs.
According to the Nation Daily, each kit was to be delivered at a sexed up price of sh 9,000 instated of sh 4,500.
Details also reveal that her firm was to supply complete body kits which consists N95 masks, body suits, goggles, waterproof shoe covers and gloves at a price tag of sh 450,000.
But what has surprised many is that her enterprise had no previous background in supply business and especially with things to do with medical equipment. Neither did she proof how she could service the multibillion tender but still she was awarded.
It has been found that she owns all the 1000 shares in the company and therefore the sole owner on the scandalous outfit.
Her work went on quiet well for long until recently when the interested parties at Kemsa finally clashed for the spoils hence spilling the beans.
The events then leaked out to the investigative agencies. Kiling Limited has been getting tenders from government and selling it to other companies at 10 percent cut.
