Thursday, June 17, 2021 -It is a major blow to Western Region Counties as government moves with speed to stop further Covid-19 virus spread through a review of curfew hours.
In fresh announcements made today by Ministry of Health, 13 counties in Western Region will start their curfew at exactly 7PM to 4AM instead of starting at 10PM like it has been before.
Busia, Vihiga, Kisii, Nyamira, Kakamega, Kericho, Bomet, Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay and Migori are among those affected in the new containment measures announced today.
The Ministry of Health in collaboration with other relevant state agencies reported that the said counties were individually and collectively declared as hot spots for Covid-19 spread.
But even as this new measures goes into enforcement, the ongoing nationwide curfew shall continue to be observed from 10PM to dawn.
Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Health Mutahi Kagwe announced that all essential service and emergencies will continue to operate noramlly.
“…movement between the hotspot zone and the rest of the country is strongly discouraged,” he said.
Further, anyone planning to cross the border in Busia to Uganda or to Tanzania will be required to have a valid negative results certificate for Covid-19.
The government on the same note shut down all livestock markets in Western Region for a length of 30 days.
