Thursday, September 9, 2021 -Personal physician to former President Mwai Kibaki Dr. Dan Gikonyo has revealed how Raila Odinga saved life of the former President when he was involved in a road accident in 2002.
For the first time after a long time, the doctor revealed to the media how Odinga ran to the scene where Kibaki had been injured and by himself picked him to hospital.
The accident took place at Machakos junction along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway on December 3, 2002.
Explaining on KTN Tv how this happened, Dr. Gikonyo who is also the proprietor at Karen Hospital further revealed that after the accident, former Kitui Senator David Musila mounted a co-ordinated rescue effort that was meant to save Mr. Kibaki and among those who were first to arrive at the scene was Raila Amollo Odinga who was with a team of other National Rainbow Coalition NARC members.
And on arrival, the opposition chief refused to trust the ambulance driver and took it upon himself to drive Kibaki to the hospital in Karen where he was treated before being flown out to Wellington Hospital in London for further treatment.
Thank God Kibaki later recovered, was sworn in as the 3rd president of the Republic of Kenya following the Raila’s ‘Kibaki Tosha’ rallying call at Uhuru Park.
