Tuesday September 21, 2021 -Vocal Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu has softened his stance on Deputy President William Ruto.
In his new statement over wrangles in the Executive, Wambugu noted that they are ready to listen and forgive Ruto on the ground that he confesses having wronged his boss Kenyatta.
On Tuesday September 21, the outspoken legislator – while extending an olive branch to the DP – said their region could still listen to the second in command if he behaves and prove beyond reasonable doubts that he can protect their interests.
MP Wambugu argued that Ruto can only be assured of political support if he addresses their plight genuinely and stop political hubris and chest-thumbing.
“However, we will watch him and see whether he can be trusted, and if he can, we are happy to have him join us in considering what’s in it for us as a region before we vote for whichever candidate, which has been my consistent message about 2022,” Wambugu partly said.
According to the MP, the region can only support anyone based on interests and not political debts as it had been claimed earlier by MP Moses Kuria who has been of the view that political debts should be considered first.
“I am glad he (Kuria) finally agrees politics is about interests and votes must be negotiated for, but I had to remind him that he spent the last three years as proponent of ‘we have a debt to Ruto and will elect him unconditionally’, so he must appreciate that some of us find his recent change of heart welcome,” he noted.
Last Friday, Ngunjiri was on record asking the DP to humble himself, publicly apologize to his boss Uhuru Kenyatta – sincerely and genuinely – but added that all these should not be construed to mean an endorsement.
Ngunjiri prepared Ruto to be ready for forgiveness but not endorsement since Uhuru can still remain firm that he is not the best person to take power in 2022.
Last weekend, Deputy President William Ruto’s allies addressed the reconciliation matter from their Bungoma rally saying Ruto had done nothing wrong to anyone that warrants an apology and that they are ready to champion their own Statehouse journey if things remained the same.
