Central MP beaten by charged locals accusing him of failure

A none-performing Igembe South MP John Mwirigi is recuperating in hospital after rowdy youths rained blows and kicks on him for what was termed as trespass.

According to reports reaching our Homenews desk, the young MP on Friday evening Sept 11th showed up at development meeting unsolicited despite having, for long, been termed an absentee MP by locals.

His efforts to make his address were immediately thwarted by angry villagers who swung in causing huge commotion that forced the first time legislator to flee away using his Prado car.

Our sources further indicated that the said meeting had been convened by Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya.

“He wanted to address the residents but some accused him of gatecrashing the meeting.

“They did not allow him to speak and that is when Mwirigi lost his temper and engaged in an exchange of words with the crowd and in no time, the crowd had landed blows on him,” a witness recounted.

Stones were pelted as booes also rented the air for close to 10 minutes before police managed to contain the situation by severally shooting in the air.

Hell broke loose when he reportedly forced his way to the meeting and even tried to address locals against their wishes what resulted in a short verbal altercation before the chaos ensued

Mwirigi was then driven to Maua Police Station where he penned his statement as Munya and fellow leaders who included East Africa Legislator Assembly MP Mpuru Aburi and Executive Director Pan African Climate Justice Mithika Mzalendo completed their thing before shortly leaving.

Speaking about the chaos, he(Mwirigi) told People Daily that politicians had poisoned his electorates over development related issues.

Just recent, his counterpart from Mbeere South MP Geoffrey Kingangi had to flee through a deep ditch after residents accused of failure too.
