Details on why Kalonzo Will not Deputize Raila

Friday, October 29, 2021 –Kalonzo Musyoka’s chances of becoming Raila Odinga’s running mate are slimming by day as details emerge that the vote rich Mt Kenya Region had already taken the slot.

According to the latest reports from allies of Kalonzo Musyoka, the running mate slot had already been filled and therefore any talks with Odinga’s team may focus on something else.

And this is why the Raila-Kalonzo reunion had delayed to conclude because the slot which Kalonzo would have taken will not be vacant.

Reacting to the matter, Makueni Senator` Mutula Kilonzo Junior said it is not yet clear what Kalozno will be given in the Raila government just incase the talks matured.

“It is not a question of softening their position. The fact is they are caught between a rock and a hard place. The position of Kalonzo in that proposed deal is not settled. In the discussion that we have heard, even the number two slot has been given away,” he told The Standard newspaper.

The push to bring on board Kalonzo is almost yielding fruits under the stewardship of President Uhuru Kenyatta. Kenyatta believes there is a place for Kalonzo in the Raila government apart from being the deputy.

And speaking on the same matter, Kalonzo’s ally Dan Maanzo has also admitted that the talks can nolonger center on the running mate slot because its now overtaken by events.

“They must talk urgently. They must either stick together or be ready to make Deputy President William Ruto president,” the lawmaker is quoted.

Sources have indicated that Raila is ready for a Mt Kenya deputy among them former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, Peter Munya (Agriculture), Laikipia Governor Nderitu Muriithi and Equity Bank CEO James Mwangi.

Kalonzo has been Raila’s running mate both in 2013 and in 2017 elections both which they lost to Uhuruto coalition.
