Thursday, November 18, 2021 –Court has sentenced Directorate of Criminal Investigation DCI boss George Kinoti for four months.
The High Court reached this decision on Thursday November 18 morning when Justice Anthony Mrima ruled that the DCI boss had crossed the red-line as far as honoring court orders was concerned.
Kinoti who is accused of court contempt will now be required to be taken to Kamiti Maximum Prison after failing to return a firearm he confiscated from businessman Jimi Wanjigi in 2018.
Kinoti was ordered to surrender to prison authorities within seven days period so that he can start serving his four months jail term.
In the ruling, arrest warrants were also issued and Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai asked to enforce the orders within the required time-frame.
The move taken today was also pushed through by the fact that Mr. Kinoti had failed to present himself to the court on Monday September 27, 2021.
Following his failure, Mrima then ordered that Kinoti appear today November 18 for the sentencing over the seven guns taken from Jimi Wanjigi’s Muthaiga home four years ago.
The first time for courts to order that Wanjigi’s firearms be returned was in 2019 when Chacha Mwita ruled in favour of the businessman saying the State acted unreasonably when they raided Wanjigi’s home and treated him as a terrorist.
Narrating to the courts what transpired, billionaire Wanjigi then told the court that the DCI officers came in without any arrest warrant or notice.
