Tuesday, November 30, 2021 –Africa Merchant Assurance Co. Ltd AMACO has won a tender worth sh 190 million with Nairobi County Government.
Business Daily reported on Tuesday November 30 that the Ruto-linked firm was finally awarded the multi-million tender through court to provide insurance cover for Nairobi County motor-vehicle and motor-cycles.
The company, according to the publication, was awarded the tender following a court ruling in which two other companies had also challenged the decision by the Nairobi County Government to give the job to AMACO.
But in the ruling, Justice Pauline Nyamweya approved the tender which had earlier been cancelled by the county’s procurement office due to the stalemate. The judge argued that the office had no powers to deny AMACO the tender.
“The ex-parte Applicant (AMACO) is therefore entitled to the orders sought of certiorari to quash the said decision, in light of the applicable principles as regards the grant of this remedy,” ruled the judge.
The 2020 tender had been canceled after 2 other interested insurance firms went to court arguing that they had not been informed of why they did not deserve the job contrary to procurement laws.
This mouthwatering tender may see AMACO resume its full operations amid bankruptcy challenges which have been affecting it since two complainants took it to court over sh 10 million compensation claims.
