Ex-Attorney General Charles Njonjo is Dead

Sunday, January 2, 2022 –Veteran and Kenya’s first Attorney General Charles Mugane Njonjo is dead. The news were confirmed by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Kenyatta on Sunday January 2 mourned the late Njonjo as a former reliable civil servant whose service to the nation cannot just fade away.

“It is with a heavy heart that I have this morning, Sunday 2nd January 2022, received the sad and heartbreaking news of the passing away of Hon. Charles Mugane Njonjo.,” Uhuru wrote.

The late Njonjo, 101 years, died a peaceful death at 5AM at his home; a demise described by family as a big blow to the nation.

Uhuru noted that the passing on of Njonjo was heartbreaking because of his leadership role in Africa.

The President added that the late was a selfless leader who contributed immensely towards the post-independence era. He served the nation between 1963 and 1979.

“Kenya’s progressive constitutional and legal regime owes its robustness to Hon. Njonjo’s splendid work when he served as the country’s first post-independence Attorney General between 1963 and 1979, and as Constitutional Affairs Minister between 1980 and 1983.

“On behalf of the Kenyan nation, my family and on my own behalf, I send deepest and heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and relatives of Hon. Njonjo, and indeed all Kenyans,” Uhuru further remarked.

Mr. Njonjo has died a very wealthy person who had interest in real estate and farming activities; and today he has a net worth of sh 7 billion.
