Tuesday February 8, 2022 -Deputy President William Ruto has taken issue with President Uhuru Kenyatta for entertaining Francis Atwoli’s behavior in public functions.
During the official launch of the Universal Heath Coverage UHC in Mombasa County on Monday February 7, Mr. Atwoli who had a chance to address the audience, made fun of Ruto’s leadership skills as well as his immediate family what now seems to have rubbed DP the wrong way.
The COTU secretary general claimed that he is old enough to be referred to as ‘father’ by Ruto and therefore the DP must learn to respect him because they are not agemates. Atwoli compared his age to Ruto’s mother.
On Tuesday February 8 morning, the angry second in command, through his Campaign Director of Communication, Hussein Mohamed, said he was not happy with the remarks from Atwoli which claimed that after the announcement of the August 9th poll results, he(Ruto) will only be left with one option of committing suicide.
“I want to urge those close to the DP to make sure there is no any tree near his Surgoi rural home because he(Ruto) could hang himself after losing the August 9th elections,” Atwoli said amid laughter.
But Ruto’s communication Director Hussein Mohamed released a statement from his boss accusing the President and his team for giving Atwoli room to hurl derogation towards the second in command.
“The remarks by their ‘ancient campaign expert’ Francis Atwoli, are completely unnecessary and go against the tenets of democracy. For Kenyans inflicted with violence and death including in the context of elections, this is not a laughing matter,” read the statement in part.
Ruto has since described Atwoli as not only reckless but also a very dangerous person at the time the country was witnessing increased cases of suicide and domestic violence.
“To use suicide as humor in electioneering, at a national health function attended by the Health Cabinet Secretary and presided by the Head of State and consequently finding it funny, is a demonstration of just how far these elite are from the realities and struggles of the Kenyan Hustler,” the DP added.
Ruto clarified that unlike Raila, he was willing to concede defeat if he fairly loses election of August 9th; a sharp departure from Raila’s history of protesting every election results.
