Friday, February 18, 2022 –A total of 15 high school students are currently admitted at Kapsowar Mission Hospital following an attack from armed bandits on Thursday evening.
The February 17 incident took place after the driver of Tot High School bus was shot dead before attackers also shot at students. This took place along Tot – Arror Road in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
Reports reaching this desk indicate that two teachers were also injured by the bandits and are among those hospitalized in critical condition.
Area County Commander, Patrick Lumumba, confirmed the attack saying they had already launched investigations to unravel why it happened on learners.
“Recovery efforts are ongoing and the students have been taken to various health facilities in Kerio Valley and those with serious injuries referred to Kapsowar Mission Hospital,” he stated.
He, however, reminded schools not to use that road since several attacks have, of recent, happened along the route.
Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, while reacting on the matter, blamed law enforcers of laxity in curbing the increasing cases of insecurity in Egeyo Marakwet County and its environs.
“I hope CS Fred Matiang’i and IG Hillary Mutyambai are aware that earlier in the evening a convoy of 3 Buses carrying students of Tot Secondary School was attacked along Arror -Tot road.
“I thought you said never again? Despite your promises, no protection and no National Police Reservist (NPR),” he wrote on Friday morning.
In a recent meeting held on February 4, Cabinet Secretary for Interior Dr. Fred Matiang’i ordered an immediate operation to flush out all the bandits.
He also asked police to start disarming residents with unlicensed guns
