Friday, February 25, 2022 –Kenya’s government has issued an advisory to its nationals trapped in Ukraine following the ongoing Russian invasion which started on Thursday February 24.
In a statement released on Friday February 25 to all newsrooms, Kenya’s government promised to monitor the safety of its people stuck in that country.
This is following an order by Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary, Macharia Kamau, who had asked all affected Kenyans to plan and vacate the country, until safety is restored.
“Kenyans have been advised that if they do not feel comfortable they should leave of their own free will. They need to judge the circumstances and decide. Only parts of the country are affected by warfare,” Macharia told a local publication.
Statistics indicate that Kenya’s Honorary Consul in Ukraine has 18 Kenyans who are permanently registered in the country while 183 are temporary. It however emerged that majority are students who traveled to that nation to join campuses.
Ukraine Ambassador to Kenya, Andrii Pravednyk, on Thursday February 24 asked the global community to stop Russia from harming innocent people living in Ukraine.
“We also call on friendly capitals to continue to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities by providing additional weapons and military equipment,” he stated.
On Thursday February 24, Russian administration led by Vladmir Putni started a full scale military invasion on Ukraine cities using heavy missiles and other air, land and sea grenades
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy would shortly confirm that 137 people, both servicemen, and civilians, had unfortunately been killed and hundreds more wounded.
Zelenskyy added that the war was not necessary and urged Russia to pull out its army to avoid escalating ugly confrontations.
