Uhuru Orders Crackdown on Bodaboda Sector

Tuesday, March 8, 2022 –Police have been ordered to intensify a crackdown on bodaboda sector to restore order and dignity.

President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered a crackdown on all rogue riders across the nation following the Forest Road incident that saw riders strip naked a female motorist over a minor accident which occurred on Monday March 7.

This exercise will kick off in Nairobi Coiunty and spread all over the country so that to sanitize the sector which seem to have lost ethics.

The president also urged politicians to not politicize the matter by claiming government was targeting hustlers.

Uhuru went on to urge boda boda operators to earn respect by respecting other road users and stop taking law into their own hands because government will not just sit quiet as they frustrate other road users.

“A boda boda is not a license to strip a woman and remove her dignity. There should never be a repeat of what happened on Friday. This is a blight on the whole Kenyan society.

“We want to support the bodaboda business but our efforts should not make them believe that they can do drive-by shootings. We will re-register all boda bodas. Those who want to politicize this let them go ahead and do that,” the president added.

Inspector General of Police Mr Hillary Mutyambai.

The head of State took the opportunity to hail young digital entrepreneurs who have been policing roads in the country through their digital platforms by highlighting evils that occur against innocent motorists.

He was making these remarks during the International Women’s Day celebrations. He was accompanied by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and her Rwandan counterpart, Janet Kagame.
