And while waiving the sh 5,000 registration fee during a forum held with bodabodas at Kenyatta International Conference Center KICC on Wednesday, Dr. Fred Matiang’i noted that the directive was issued by President Uhuru Kenyatta, a day after he announced a countrywide crackdown.

Though bodaboda riders were to part with sh 5,000, the government has announced that this will be free of charge and those who will succeed will be offered a clearance smart card to carry along during their activities.

The CS explained that the registration exercise will be overseen by the National Transport Safety (NTSA).

This exercise, according to Matiang’i, will begin from Monday, March 21 and will be done at various Huduma centers across the nation.

The CC also ordered all Regional Commissioners to be holding monthly meetings with the operators; this is aimed at learning about their challenges as well as sensitizing them.

“Effective now, the Regional Commissioner for Nairobi will be having a meeting with boda boda guys every month and get to know their challenges,” Matiang’i stated during the meeting.

Matiang’i took issue with politicians who have been interfering with bodaboda riders in the country for their own political benefits and mileage.
