Monday, April 4, 2022 –Ambassador Patrick ‘Paddy’ Ahenda has died in Qatar where he has been representing Kenya.

The State officer breathed his last while undergoing treatment in a hospital in Doha Qatar after he had suffered what the family referred to as ‘severe stroke’.

Kenyan Ambassador to Qatar, the late Patrick ‘Paddy’ Ahenda.

Before traveling to Qatar, Ahenda was the Member of Parliament Kasipul Kabondo between 2005 and 2007. He had just taken over from Peter Owidi who also died.

Ahenda was appointed to Qatar in 2018 by President Uhuru Kenyatta following his Handshake agreement with former premier Raila Odinga.

Though, during his vetting process to take over the ambassadorial role, it emerged that he was not qualified with some quarters claiming he did not have necessary papers to qualify him to be an ambassador.

In his defense, Ahenda maintained that he had a lot of experience in sales and marketing as a manager and can run any office.

At some point, a rumnour emerged that Qatar had rejected his appointment in their country but this was however not true.

The late Wilfred Machage.

“The Embassy requests that the respected newspaper and all the other online news platform that carried the above mentioned unverified news, to carry out their due diligence and to confirm their stories before publishing,” the embassy responded at the time.

His death is coming barely 2 months after another Kenya’s High Commissioner to Nigeria Dr. Wilfred Machage also died of similar reasons.
