Friday, April 8, 2022 –Government has managed to procure a whopping 100 million liters of petrol amid the ongoing crisis.
Information reaching Homenews.co.ke desk indicates that the ship carrying the valuable commodity docked at the Port of Mombasa on Thursday April 7.
Receiving the consignment at the port, both Energy Cabinet Secretary, Amb Monica Juma, and Petroleum Principal Secretary, Andrew Kamau said it was good news for the country and that the liquid will be distributed equally across the country so that to bring the crisis to a stop.
CS Juma added that now the country has enough fuel product and that no one should worry anymore about lack of fuels going forward.
“Across the country, I have seen the figures and I have had comprehensive briefs from all agencies engaged in this and I’m satisfied.
“So I have come here to confirm to the nation there is no need for panic,” she stated.
She confirmed that more tankers were on the way and will arrive at the Mombasa Port with millions of fuel enough to keep the country running for years.
In his Thursday April 7 address to the nation during budget reading, Treasury Cabinet Secretary, Ukur Yatani, assured that the government was working day and night to make sure consumers are shielded from high fuel prices.
“The government has taken deliberate steps to subsidize pump prices through the Petroleum Development Levy Fund. This action has stabilized pump prices and consequently prices of goods and services.
“The government remains committed to provide adequate resources to mitigate the rising cost of fuel,” Yatani stated.
The development is coming just days after President Uhuru Kenyatta had signed into law the 2022 Supplementary Appropriation Bill (Supplementary Budget) which saw sh 34.4 billion allocated to oil marketers in subsidy funds.
Further, Ex-Prime Minister Raila Odinga, a day ago met with stakeholders in the oil industry to discuss a lasting solution where they agreed to have enough oil reserves in the country.
