Azimio Women Push for Raila-Karua Ticket

Monday, April 18, 2022 –Azimio la Umoja women now want Ms Martha Karua to deputize Raila Odinga in the August 9 general elections.

Youth and Gender Affairs Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Rachel Shebesh who today Monday April 18 led a women’s league meeting at Jacarabda Hotel in Westlands, asked Azimio-one Kenya Alliance leaders to pick on the Narc-Kenya Party leader to be Raila’s running mate.

The women argued that, finally, they had a woman who was sufficiently fit for that role without more excuses as it has been claimed before.

Shebesh further argued that in Martha, women across the country would feel adequately represented in the governance of this country.

She also pointed out Karua’s leadership track record saying it was enough to land her a major role in Raila’s Azimio administration.

“All the 26 parties that are in Azimio, today we decided to meet the women league chairs. One of the reasons we are here today, is simply as this, Martha Karua, Deputy President, Azimio.
“We do not know why it is rocket science. We do not see how you cannot see the value of Martha. One of the values of Martha is, of course, she is a national figure, she has vied for Presidency, she has been a Minister, she knows how to run government and her record speaks for itself,” Shebesh said on behalf of the team.

The administrative secretary went further to state that both Jubilee and Orange Party women had agreed to throw their weight behind Karua so that she could become the next Deputy President.

“That is the main focus of our meeting today and how we will start lobbying. We are going to start that serious conversation in Azimio that we think the number two should be Martha Karua,” she added.

Despite coming in late, Karua seems to be leading in who should deputize Raila ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

Others who are being proposed to deputize Odinga are Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya as well as ex-Gatanga lawmaker Peter Kenneth who is also said to be Uhuru’s favourite.
