Uhuru Could Vie Again After Resting for 10 Years – Atwoli

Saturday, April 30, 2022 –Outspoken Organization of Trade Union COTU boss Francis Atwoli now says President Uhuru Kenyatta should be ready to vie again after serving his ten years of retirement.

Atwoli who was speaking with the Standard paper of Sunday April 30 reasoned that the president is still a young man who should not be allowed to hang boots at his age.

He justified this argument by saying, the world over, retired presidents could return to power if voters say so and that this can still happen in Kenya.

“He is too young to retire, he’s still a young person. He may be in retirement for ten years, or a number of years, and then make a comeback in politics and leadership,” Atwoli told the publication adding that:

“We can’t rule out the possibility of Uhuru Kenyatta returning as president in the near future.”

But even as the Secretary General says this, the current Constitution does not speak about such a thing that the retired head of State could make a comeback after resting for a certain period.

“The President shall hold office for a term beginning on the date on which the President was sworn in, and ending when the person next elected President in accordance with Article 136 (2) (a) is sworn in. (2) A person shall not hold office as President for more than two terms,” 2010 promulgated Constitution states.

Atwoli was reiterating his earlier remarks before BBI collapsed that Uhuru was still young and energetic to go home and even implored that the Constitution should be tempered with to accommodate him once more.
