Saturday, May 14, 2022 –Two top contestants for running mate position in Kenya Kwanza have left Karen venue in a huff each going his separate way.
Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki was the first to angrily leave the William Ruto’s Karen compound after he learnt of betrayal. Shortly, Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua also left in similar circumstances.
The two had not agreed on who Ruto should be naming between them as the preferred running mate; hence creating the Saturday May 14 long stalemate at Ruto’s residence in Karen Nairobi.
Impeccable sources from within who spoke to Homenews.co.ke through telephone means disclosed that Ruto had a running mate ready to name by 10AM, but, things started going South the moment Rigathi Gachagua arrived in the compound with other demands.
MP Gachagua animatedly reminded DP Ruto that when they win power, he should be handed the Interior docket in their administration.
This desk also learnt that sharp divisions emerged in the meeting where Ruto’s camp demanded Kindiki to be named contrary to Gachagua who held the view that the Tharaka Nithi senator commands no masses in their region and may also be a silent man when he takes office.
Gachagua also went blunt by telling Ruto’s team that should they do a mistake and announce Kindiki, Mt Kenya votes will have gone away to competitors.
Bust Ruto’s camp preferred Kindiki arguing that he was calm and easy to work with than any other person in the team. That his less confrontational nature would hold Kenya Kwanza administration together.
Gachagua’s sudden about-turn went contrary to what he had promised earlier in the week that he would leave the job of picking a running mate to their boss William Ruto.
“We have given him the free hand to pick his running mate as opposed to the other side whereby the talks are polarising,” the MP stated in a past Tv interview.
He went ahead to claim that their presidential candidate was ready with someone in mind to announce on Saturday morning.
