Raila to Unravel Running Mate Puzzle at KICC

Monday, May 16, 2022 –Azimio la Umoja coalition will be unveiling their running mate today Monday May 16 at the Kenyatta International Convention Center KICC.

The Alliance led by Raila Amollo Odinga has only today being the deadline to present the final name of the running mate as required by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC.

The task of naming the running mate has been a thorn in the flesh of the coalitions almost threatening to tear them apart.

For instance, Raila Odinga is required to pick one candidate from the three names on his desk – Martha Karua, Peter Kenneth and Kalonzo Musyoka. Out of these names, Raila will be picking one of them and this may see others feel betrayed.

Already Wiper Democratic Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is ready to walk away should Odinga pick someone else. He has announced that he will have to vie for the presidency just incase this happens.

IEBC set May 16 as the deadline for selection of running mate; a directive that saw the William Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza coalition yesterday Sunday May 15 select MP Rigathi Gachagua in an event that took place at Ruto’s Karen residence.

MP Gachagua beat Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki in a contest that ran from full day and night to get to its conclusion.

He would then boycott the naming event after he lost to Gachagua.
