Wednesday, May 18, 2022 – Lugari Member of parliament Ayub Savula has accepted to team up with ODM Party gubernatorial front-liner Fernandes Barasa ahead of the August polls.

Savula who was seeking to replace Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya through his DAP-Kenya Party yesterday officiated his withdrawal from the race in a function presided over by Azimio la Umoja coalition leader, Raila Amollo Odinga.

Azimio leaders led by Raila Odinga in a meeting on Tuesday May 17.

Speaking on the Matter, Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa announced through their official DAP-Kenya Twitter Handle that the Lugari MP had finally agreed to shelve his bid so that to deputise Barasa in the competitive Kakamega County race.

“Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! Congratulations @Marende2022 on the elevation from county politics to speaker nominee for the @Senate_KE and @HonAyubSavula for accepting to deputize  Fernandes Barasa,” he noted.

It therefore means the two politicians will be facing-off with Senator Cleophas Malala who is riding on the Hustler Nation Kenya Kwanza narrative to succeed Oparanya who is serving his second and last term.

Initially, MP Savula had refuted claims that he was planning to pull out of the race saying he had what it takes to win the seat; but after being prevailed upon by his party and coalition leadership, this seems to have changed his mind.

And according to political pundits, this should worry Senator Malala because Savula’s popularity combined with Barasa is not anything to take lightly.

Senator Malala recently unveiled a less-known female running mate Dr. Beatrice Muganda Inyangala to help him take charge of the populous Kakamega County.
