Saturday, May 21, 2022 –Nairobi gubernatorial running mate Philip Kaloki has affirmed his commitment in Azimio saying his Wiper Party boss Kalonzo Musyoka had not asked him to change mind.
Addressing this matter on K24 Tv on Thursday May 19, Kaloki confirmed to the media that Wiper’s position is still in Azimio coalition and he will be campaigning for Mr. Odinga.
He also clarified that their initial agreement in Azimio la Umoja will be respected to the latter unless otherwise.
“Because of the coalition agreement that is there, my presidential candidate at the moment is Rt. Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga, that’s the candidate that we are supporting. We don’t have any directions contrary to this position.
“What we are doing at the moment is supporting the former Prime minister to be the fifth president of this country and Nairobi is a county whereby I’m running as deputy governor, the majority of our voters are also supporting Baba,” he noted.
He was making the remarks amid storm of concerns in Azimio coalition about the Wiper’s stand in matters succession politics.
Kenyans had started raising concerns on whether Prof Kaloki should remain Polycarp Igathe’s running mate or be replaced.
Upto now, however, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka who on Monday, bolted out of the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition is currently taking a rest at his Yatta farm home for one week to do some reflection.
He is expected to make his firm and final stand after oscillating back and forth since the time he announced his intentions to support Odinga for the third time.
Musyoka has been the running mate for Mr. Odinga in 2013 and 2017 which elections they lost to Jubilee Party of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.
