Monday, May 23, 2022 –Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe has now clarified the role Kalonzo Musyoka will play in Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition.
Speaking in interview on NTV on Sunday May 22 night, the vocal Jubilee Party official said Kalonzo will not be given the chief minister position because it does not exist anywhere in the Constitution. He also reminded Kalonzo that he did not participate fully in helping push the Building Bridges Initiative BBI which had to create that position and, therefore, he should not pressure Raila to create one for him.
“The Chief Minister’s portfolio offered to Kalonzo and Musalia Mudavadi (in the Kenya Kwanza alliance) does not exist in the law. It was to be created in the BBI which they (Kenya Kwanza) opposed and are now using to make those positions,” Murathe remarked.
He clarified that the only senior ministerial position Odinga or Ruto could create for some people is Interior Cabinet position currently under Dr. Fred Matiang’i.
“You can have a Chief Minister the way Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang’i is, but you ought to be a minister first in charge of the coordination of government affairs. That ranks you above all the other ministers,” Murathe further stated.
He therefore urged Musyoka to make a decision and join Azimio because time is of essence or perish in the darkness alone.
“He must be honest with himself when he runs away from Azimio after missing out on the running mate slot.
“Thus, Kalonzo is still within Azimio as the agreement he signed says he cannot leave six months before elections and three months after. The reason for that clause is to bar principals from declaring allegiance to the other formation,” Murathe noted.
He took the opportunity to warn the Wiper brigade against rocking Azimio boat because his(Kalonzo’s) fate was already sealed and therefore he must be ready to become the next National Assembly speaker in Raila government and nothing more than that.
