Tuesday, May 24, 2022 –Raila Odinga has appointed a team of politicians to lead his campaigns in Lower Eastern Region where Kalonzo Musyoka comes from.
Among the team is former Statehouse Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita who will be working under Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana.
Raila has also picked on John Katuku and Florence Mwangangi to help campaign for him in the region perceived to be Musyoka’s stronghold.
The team will spearhead popularization of Azimio la Umoja in the Ukambani part of the country ahead of the next general elections.
Homenews.co.ke also learnt that Raila tapped into the services of former Chief of Staff to Governor Alfred Mutua, Mr. Mwengi Mutuse.
The move will help Odinga get support in the wake of Wiper Party threats to walk away from the coalition pact signed a couple of months ago.
Pundits also think this move will further stir friction within Azimio-One Kenya coalition even as efforts to bring back Kalonzo continues.
On Monday afternoon, a larger section of Ukambani Region leaders converged in a local consultative forum to pressure their party boss to rejoin Azimio or suffer a massive rebellion from within.
The Monday May 23 announcement was made by Wiper Organizing Secretary Robert Mbui flanked by 50 MPs and senators from Ukambani; out of which 45 agreed with the resolution to return to Azimio as soon as possible.
Present also was Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior.
