Tuesday, May 24, 2022 –It has emerged that Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula are pushing two carts at the same time.

In a statement from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC, Wetang’ula is defending his Bungoma County senatorial seat while outgoing Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua wants to vie for Mwala Parliamentary seat now that he is among the governors set to retire home after serving two terms in office.

IEBC on Monday May 24 made the confirmations which saw Mutua come out to deny the reports saying he was currently interested in supporting Deputy President William Ruto win the presidency.

“For the avoidance of doubt, I wish to clarify that at this particular time, I am not running for any elective position in the forthcoming elections. I am concentrating on campaigning for the Kenya Kwanza coalition so that Kenya can get a new system where dreams can come true,” Mutua stated.

But the Wafula Chebukati-led commission made the revelations on Monday during signature presentation session from presidential candidates.

And Pundits now believe that Wetang’ula and Mutua are secretly playing safe should Ruto renege on the promise he made to them in their Kenya Kwanza pact.

In the deal, Ruto promised them lucrative positions if he forms the next government after the August 9th General Election.

Mutua negotiated for a cabinet slot while Wetang’ula will be made Senate Speaker in the event they win power in the general elections.
