Saturday, May 28, 2022 –Three top gubernatorial candidates in Mombasa County met on Saturday May 28 during a clergy-organized convention meant to discuss peace and unity.
Pictures reached our desk on Saturday May 28 afternoon in which former Nairobi boss, Mike Sonko, Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir and United Democratic Alliance’s (UDA), Hassan Omar Hassan were happily sharing a table.
Confirming the Saturday meeting, Sonko stated that he was very happy to join his rivals for prayers ahead of the August 9 polls.
The Mombasa candidate added that the meeting will form the basis for a peaceful campaign season that will put Mombasa County on the map ahead of the rest.
“We should all fear God and always stick to what we say. We should always respect our people. We should always be ready to help and stand with them at all times. We must always preach peace and love as we campaign,” he said.
This is after chaos recently erupted in Azimio la Umoja rally which saw the governor who had stormed the meeting un-invited run for his dear life.
And today, Sonko described their meeting as long-awaited and that he was still looking forward for more meetings that will ensure a peaceful campaign environment.
“I was privileged to attend a Church breakfast meeting at Bahari Beach hotel. We are one and we are all human. As I have always put it, colour, tribe, religion, family background and societal disbeliefs should not divide us, leaders,” Sonko added.
Sonko is part of Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance through their Wiper Party and his entrance into Mombasa County politics has continued to stir sibling rivalry within the coalition owing to the fact that ODM Party already has a candidate in Mombasa.
