Tuesday, June 14, 2022 –Vioja Mahakamani actor Kiongozi wa Mashataka born Gibson Gathu Mbugua has confirmed receiving a whopping sh 2 million from President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The President made the staggering donation in a fundraiser which had been organized at the Charter Hall in Nairobi last Monday June 13.
“President Kenyatta, who is a good friend, did send his personal donation of Ksh2 million. We as a family and the committee thank him for the support,” Gathu confirmed.
The ailing veteran also disclosed that, so far, they had managed to amass close to sh 6 million support from fellow actors in and outside the country.
“Other well-wishers have also been part of this journey and we are humbled by each and everyone’s gesture towards this noble course.
“Dialysis is expensive. Your insurance cover gets exhausted and you start spending off your pocket. You know, insurance is limited. Every day you visit, the dialysis is from sh10,000 and you have to go three times a week,” the actor stated.
Mbugua also revealed that insurance medical card never settles bills beyond the third round of dialysis; what forced him to start funding it on his own.
“And they don’t pay for the third. So that has forced me to dig into my pockets and that has drained family finances. So, I saw that if I get a transplant, my life will get back to normal and I will do my work,” added the actor.
He clarified that part of the sh 6 million donation will cater for expenses and care after surgery because it is usually an expensive transition.
The veteran KBC actor now battling kidney complications was part of the famous Vioja Mahakamani acting group which used to do its thing on KBC national TV every week.
It comprised him, the late Mzee Ojwang Mama Kayai, Makokha among a few others.
