Thursday, June 16, 2022 –Vocal Lawyer Miguna Miguna has walked to a Canadian court seeking over $15 Million or sh 1.7 billion compensation from Kenyan Cabinet Secretary for Interior Dr. Fred Matiang’i.
Dr. Miguna, through his lawyers, argued that he suffered huge losses and damage caused during his unrealistic deportation from his home country, Kenya.
Sharing a series of documents on Thursday June 16, the complainant who is based in Canada conjoined Interior Permanent Secretary PS Karanja Kibicho in the suit as respondents.
He also included two other entities – international companies – in the multimillion suit that could reignite his fight with Kenyan State.
Through the court papers seen by Homenews.co.ke on Thursday evening, the lawyer noted that he had suffered bad reputation and losses in business when Kenyan government decided to bundle him out of the country he believes he was born.
Miguna therefore wants to be compensated for unlawful deportation, assault and defamation among other things.
“The Plaintiff claims from the Defendants, jointly and severally general damages for malicious prosecution, unlawful detention, torture, assault and battery in the sum of sh1.1 billion and general damages for libel, defamation and slander in the sum of sh 587,050,000,” read the court documents in part.
The barrister averred to the Toronto Ontario Court that following his unceremonious deportation which was captured live with major media outlets, he suffered character defamation both to his family and clients.
“The plaintiff, Miguna Miguna (hereinafter referred to as “Mr. Miguna”) was at all material times an Ontario lawyer in good standing for more than 27 years, as well as a lawyer, writer, commentator, and human rights activist in Kenya, and a resident of the Province of Ontario,” he argued.
His right to privacy worth sh 2344,820,000 was also contravened when police detonated his Nairobi mansion early in the morning.
