Return of Masks as Government Hints at Lockdown

Monday, June 20, 2022 –Government has hinted at the return of lockdowns amid concerns on the rise of Covid-19 virus in the country.

Ministry of Health led by Cabinet Secretary CS Mutahi Kagwe has today Monday June 20 directed the return of mandatory masking amid increased cases of Coronavirus.

Making the announcement in the afternoon, Kagwe asked members of the public to start wearing masks anytime they are in public places.

He listed matatus, supermarket, hospitals, churches, shopping malls and play grounds-cum-stadia as places everybody must access with a mask on.

“One is required to wear a mask when in contact with other people in closed, confined spaces such as PSVs, aircraft, offices, supermarkets, market places and places of worship.

“All indoor meetings to continue at full capacity of the venue but provided that people take measures to be fully vaccinated in order to do so. We are not restricting in-person worship. We also require worshipers to wear their face masks while inside the places of worship,” Mr. Kagwe stated.

Currently, the country is reporting a daily positivity rate of 12.6 percent according to June 20 records from the Ministry of health.

Government has also warned on indoor political gatherings which it has since described as super spreaders and risky if not checked.

Those who have also not received shots and booster shots are encouraged to take them from any nearest point to save the country from another round of lockdowns.
