Monday, June 20, 2022 –Mombasa gubernatorial candidate Mike Mbuvi Sonko’s appeal to get cleared to vie for the Mombasa gubernatorial position through Wiper Party has been dismissed.
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC siting in Mombasa today Monday June 20 dismissed the appeal as in-consequential sealing the fate of the flamboyant politician who recently moved from Nairobi to Mombasa County for political and business reasons.
Sonko had applied for the appeal seeking to be cleared to run for the Mombasa seat on Wiper Democratic Party ticket of Kalonzo Musyoka.
He was vying for the Mombasa County seat which Orange Party ODM had already fronted a candidate in Mombasa, Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, and therefore through the spirit of their coalition, Wiper was not supposed to field anybody in the Region under what they describe as ‘zoning’.
The vying of Mr. Sonko had created unnecessary friction in Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya alliance as ODM continued to protest his irregular candidature.
This is because Nairobi County had been left for Jubilee and Wiper parties same to Kitui County which Raila’s candidate Charity Ngilu has already ceded ground for Julius Malombe and David Musila who are supposed to square it out in the August 9 poll should they not agree on who should be the best to take over from Ngilu.
Sonko has however promised that he will be moving to the upper court for further redress.
