Sunday, July 3, 2022 –City lawyer Donald Kipkorir’s service bill worth a whopping sh 1.3 billion to the Nairobi County Government has sparked mixed reactions from members of the public.
Homenews.co.ke had a privilege to look at the astonishing document, and ascertained that the Deputy Registrar of the Environment and Lands Court in Nairobi certified that KTK Advocates, paid tax on legal fees totaling to sh 1,338,011,582.
And speaking on the matter today Sunday July 3, the flashy lawyer himself confirmed serving the bill and detailed how this figure came by.
“Legal Fees are regulated by The Advocates Act, Cap 16 and The Advocates (Remuneration) Order. Courts assess legal fees based on inter alia, the value of the subject matter, public importance and complexity,” he stated.
Nonetheless, Kenyans who got this report issued mixed reactions some envying how lawyers are making a killing from their legal services making this one of the most lucrative profession so far in the country.
Fellow lawyers who reacted to the matter also said this figure was not a shock to some of them because, sometimes, it can even go higher than that due to may other parameters.
“True but it highly depends with the know-how of the taxing master. I have never gotten such generous amounts but it is okay,” another top lawyer stated.
But even as he made this confession, various groups including civil societies and activists protested that this is another way lawyers and rogue county government officials collude to steal money from governments.
