Government Declares Monday a Public Holiday

Friday, July 8, 2022 –Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i has declared Monday July 11 a national public holiday.

Through a Gazette Notice of Friday July 8, the CS announced that, on that day, Muslim community will be celebrating their Idd-Ul-Adha sometimes called Eid-ul-Adha and therefore a need to give them moral support.

“It is notified for general information that in the exercise of the powers conferred by sections 3 as read with section 2 (2) of the Public Holidays Act (Cap. 110), the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Co-ordination of National Government declares Monday, 11th July 2022 a public holiday marking Idd-ul-Adha,” read the notice in part.

This day (Eid ul-Adha) or the Feast of Sacrifice is usually celebrated by Muslims all over the world as a major holiday for a period of three to four days.

It sees thousands of Muslim faithful – men and women – show up in their Mosques and Islamic centers around the country.

Furthermore, this celebrations marks and concludes the Pilgrimage to Mecca where Muslim faithful assemble before the official declaration.

Offices both private and public will have to remain shut on Monday.
