Kakamega County continues to face huge losses of important personalities in the society.
In just a span of three days alone, the county has lost three important personalities with scores lying and dying unnoticed.
Coronavirus is ravaging the county with less care having claimed life of Governor Wycliffe Oparanya’s Chief of Staff Robert Sumbi and before dust could settle, former Kakamega gubernatorial candidate Marble Muruli was reported dead in Karen Hospital Nairobi where she had been rushed for medication after showing signs of Covid-19.
Though the two mentioned personalities could have died from other illnesses, Covid-19 virus is touted as the most probable cause of their deaths.
On third day, Kakamega woke up on another sad news of losing one of the finest Doctor Daniel Alushula who was the most sought after Orthopedician in the expansive Western Province. He has saved so many lives mostly those involved in accidents. His job involved working on accident victims by fixing broken bones.
Sources have told us that Dr. Alushula has been serving not only Kakamega areas but also Kisumu, Busia, Vihiga and Bungoma Counties and sometimes flies around the country during national emergencies.
Family divulged that he contracted Covid-19 virus in line of duty at Busia County Referral Hospital before he was admitted at Kisumu Avenue Hospital alongside his wife and children. His condition had deteriorated a lot forcing medics attending to him to rush him to the Intensive Care Unit ICU.
“The death of Dr Daniel Alushula has robbed my hometown of Kakamega a renowned Orthopedic surgeon .Gods comfort to family and quick recovery to other family members still hospitalized. Good night Daktari.Let’s keep washing hands, wearing masks and let’s keep away from crowds,” Bernard William Chitunga tweeted.
Until his ultimate death, Alushula was the senior most orthopedic surgeon who had served for a total of 38 years in that capacity.
Reacting on the death, former Doctors Union Secretary General Olunga Ouma described the late as a passionate doctor who went beyond the call of duty to treat trauma and orthopedic patients with dedication.

Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, on his part, mentioned in his official condolence message that Alushula was not only competent but also a humble medic.
“The death of Dr Daniel Alushula has robbed us a renowned Orthopedic surgeon whose medical services have saved many lives,” Governor tweeted.
His death has painted a gloomy picture of a county now under siege of the unseen enemy Covid-19.
