Sunday, July 10, 2022 –Electoral body, IEBC, has today gazetted names of politicians who have been facing huddles ahead of August 9 general elections.
Among the names seen by Homenews.co.ke in the official Gazette Notice of July 10 are Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala, his Nairobi counterpart Johnson Sakaja and Jubilee Party Lang’ata Parliamentary candidate Kevin Kioko Bahati.
In contrast, embattled former Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko and Kiambu senatorial aspirant Karungo wa Thang’wa headlined the list of politicians who were ignored by IEBC.
The special Gazette Notice listed a final total of four presidential candidates together with their running mates, gubernatorial candidates, senatorial, parliamentary, woman representatives and members of county assembly.
What has remained as a shock to many is the fact that Mr. Sakaja whose case is still pending in court was also included in the notice
“Johnson Sakaja is officially the UDA gubernatorial candidate for the Nairobi governor’s race. His name has been gazetted. Like we said, the ‘system’ will not impose their project on the residents of Nairobi,” Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki commented.
Sakaja’s case is still a matter pending in court and was due for determination in a week’s time; but now that the Wafula Chebukati-led commission has made a decision, what this means is that he (Sakaja) will have to be part of the contestants.
Sakaja’s piling predicaments started when IEBC led by Mr. Chebukati dismissed the Commission for University Education CUE’s revocation letter which it termed not only baseless but also inconsequential.
