Deputy President William Ruto has asked the Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration to stop harassing Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua over links to graft.
Speaking while on his daylong Central Kenya tour on Saturday October 31st, Mr. Ruto defended his ally MP Gachagua from investigations over sh 12 billion irregular payments and money laundering.
According to the DP, all the accusations leveled against his friends were political and that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations DCI was being used to fight political wars.
He mentioned that if the war on graft was genuine then the country would be witnessing balanced arrests from all political divides.
“I want to tell DCI to leave Rigathi Gachagua alone. I want to tell those in charge of the Criminal Justice System not to use the system for matters of politics and to settle political scores,” Ruto scoffed.
“Rigathi is being harassed due to his political affiliation but he is not at fault. Those behind Gachagua’s woes are people who do not want him to take his money to church,” the DP added.
The second in Command further said Gachagua was also being targeted because he poses a threat to other lazy leaders from Kieleweke team who have never developed their constituents.
He said the development record by Mr. Gachagua was speaking volume; no wonder he was being targeted by rivals.
He therefore asked his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta to take charge and protect leaders who were being hunted down for wrong reasons.
Ruto seized the opportunity to ask the head of State to start supporting the Jubilee Party’s initial plan which was to rally support behind him(Ruto) for 2022.
“Uhuru Kenyatta and I have constructed roads, railway lines and helped in providing water and electricity to Kenyans. Hence, when the president’s term is finally over, who is better placed to finish the job?” he posed.
Ruto and Uhuru Kenyatta have had a frosty relationship since assuming their second term and, so far, all the official duties of the DP have since been moved to the Ministry of Interior headed by Dr. Fred Matiang’i. This has even worsened the bad blood between Ruto and Dr. Matiang’i.
