Thursday, July 14, 2022 –President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party had to make an emergency phone call to former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko to come and save situations in Nairobi.
This is following the recent gubernatorial debate that saw their candidate, Polycarp Igathe, fall way below United Democratic Alliance UDA Candidate Johnson Sakaja.
Further, the coming of Sonko was also informed by the fact that courts had finally cleared the candidature of Senator Sakaja despite having a questionable Degree paper; what Jubilee had not envisaged.
A source who spoke to Homenews.co.ke revealed that Azimio leaders had to quickly contact Sonko to come and salvage Igathe from imminent loss to Sakaja who seems to be holding a tight grip on Nairobi County vote base.
But when called, Mr. Sonko made some demands to the Uhuru Kenyatta-led Jubilee Party asking to be given a fair chance in Mombasa to face off with ODM candidate, Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir.
“The deal required Sonko to deliver Nairobi for Azimio coalition and in return, he will be given a fair chance to vie for the governorship in Mombasa where he equally enjoys a resounding popularity,” a source told the Standard.
This saw Sonko join Uhuru Kenyatta in a function in Ruai where he addressed residents asking them to support all Azimio la Umoja candidates.
He urged his thousands of supporters to vote both Polycarp Igathe and Raila Odinga on August 9 when elections will be held.
Also present in the function was Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino who described the Uhuru-Sonko relationship as cordial.
