Saturday, July 23, 2022 –Martha Karua has revealed how United Democratic Alliance UDA Party running mate, Rigathi Gachagua, came to the debate with a key plan to provoke her into an altercation.
Commenting on their July 19 debate with Gachagua on Saturday July 22 morning KBC show, Raila Odinga’s running mate observed that the Mathira Member of Parliament tried harder to push her to the corner so that she could explode; but she had an idea of the scheme and remained composed.
She explained that the strategy which they had discussed to use against her flopped badly when she decided to focus on standards and procedures.
“It was not my first time to be on TV. There are standards for the debate and I strictly followed them.
“They had begun the propaganda by saying that I would go there and become annoyed and start having a heated exchange of words. In the debate, they also tried ways to bring that out,” she recounted.
And defending her newly-found attitude of remaining calm throughout even at the time of provocation, Ms Karua said she was still the same person only that people who hated her from long ago have never wanted to praise her leadership skills which she describes as ‘principled’.
“You thought you were smart and could easily rile me up. They are the ones who are now disappointed.
“If you do not have any agenda, then you will fear being questioned over it. You will want to cause a situation where we are exchanging words,” she quipped.
Also speaking on Citizen Tv on Friday July 22 morning, Mark Bichachi – a political commentator – noted that Gachagua’s introductory remarks on ‘family as a basic unity of the society’ was meant to embarrass Ms Karua who he thought would not produce anyone from her family.
Next on stage is her boss former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and United Democratic Alliance UDA Party leader William Ruto who are set to meet at Catholic University venue on Tuesday next week.
