Thursday, August 4, 2022 –Africa’s fastest sprinter Ferdinand Omanyala has won Gold medal in the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
The runner managed to clock 10:02 seconds to beat competitors under a quite windy situation hence becoming the first Kenyan after Seraphine Antao of 1960 to win the gold in a key championship.
He was followed closely by South African Akani Simbine who bagged Silver Medal in 10:13 seconds as Sri Lankan Yukun Abeykoon ran away with Bronze.
Leaders have since taken to their specific social media platforms to congratulate the sprinter for making the country proud again.
“Kenya’s gem and Africa’s fastest man @Ferdiomanyala gets gold at the Commonwealth Games, clocking 10.02 seconds. What a man! We are proud of you,” DP William Ruto commented.
In the recent World Athletics Champions held in Oregon USA, Omanyala was unlucky as he bowed out at Semis level.
