Saturday, August 20, 2022 –Workers’ union boss Francis Atwoli has advised the nation to remain calm as the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya team moves to Court to challenge the presidential election outcome.
Speaking during a burial service in Meru County on Friday August 19 afternoon, the Central Organisation of Trade Union secretary general voiced his readiness to work with whoever the court will decide as the genuine winner in the August 9 contest.
He revealed that they were the brains behind going to the Supreme Court to challenge the Wafula Chebukati’s controversial decision and that this was purely done in the spirit of unity and peace of the country.
“We advised Raila to follow the law and wait for the court’s verdict. Ruto also said that he will accept the final decision of the court. If the two agree with the court’s decision, who are we to reject it?” Atwoli posed.
He went ahead to ask social media enthusiasts to avoid spewing hatred and false news at the time the country is hanging in a political tension.
“You can throw jabs at each other but the election is over and you will have to seat with family members who you didn’t agree with politically but you understand that tolerance is the key,” Atwoli stated.
“I am pleading with those who are using social media to threaten people and incite others to stop. We are going to court let us wait for the results from the court,” the trade unionist added.
For instance, on Friday, August 12, the vocal trade activist dismissed reports that he was on his way out of the country following Ruto’s win.
He then went ahead to flag a photo which showed him at the airport ready to take off with his family.
