Sunday, August 21, 2022 –President-elect William Ruto has said that he is the founder of the United Democratic Movement UDM Party which has since joined his camp in a post-poll arrangement.

Ruto who was speaking this on Saturday August 20 after Azimio la Umoja camp led by running mate Martha Karua took issue with his speed of disorganising other parties like it was done in the Nyayo era, noted that he actually founded the party after he had fallen out with the then ruling party, KANU.

He detailed that in 1998, he joined forces with former Minister in the Moi regime Kipruto Arap Kirwa, Cyrus Jirongo and Alfred Sambu to form UDM Party which is now under the leadership of ex-Mandera Governor, Ali Roba.

The outgoing DP added that efforts to get the party officially registered and recognised in the political parties register could not go far after the then president Daniel Moi blocked all their attempts.

“I am actually the founder of UDM. We formed this UDM party with Kipruto Kirwa, Cyrus Jirongo and Alfred Sambu in 1998. This was when we were harassed out of KANU,” Ruto divulged.

And in 2007, he decided to lead all UDM supporters into the ‘pentagon’ which was being led by Raila Amolo Odinga before parting their ways later to form United Republic Party URP which later merged with Jubilee in 2013 to form governement.

This week, UDA Party leader has been on the receiving end after he appeared to be moving very fast to swallow other parties around the country; in what was perceived by political pundits as part of a dirty scheme to end multi-patyism.
