Friday, August 26, 2022 –Juliana Cherera and colleagues are filing separate affidavits in support of their dissenting argument against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC.

Ms Cherera alongside her three colleagues who disagreed with Chebukati’s decision to hand William Ruto a victory certificate at Bomas have said their decision to file stand alone affidavits was triggered by the fact that Odinga had named each one of them as a respondent.

IEBC commissioners meet candidates from areas where election was postponed at Bomas of Kenya on August.

These petitions, they said, are on the basis of their positions in the electoral body IEBC and not as private citizens.

“We have already identified our lawyers and given them directives. We need our own lawyers because the prayers Raila Odinga has given to the court in relation to the case are different from what we have been listed to answer,” an anonymous official stated.

They have clarified that they are not working in cahoots with Azimio la Umoja but very non-partisan in the whole matter which is of public weight.

Court session in progress.

There falling out with Chebukati, they said, was professional and nothing personal since they believe in the rule of law and fair electoral practice.

The four IEBC dissenting officials are vice chairperson Juliana Cherera, Justus Nyang’aya, Francis Wanderi and Irene Masit.
