Sunday, August 28, 2022 –Renowned lawyer Charles Kanjama has predicted a repeat election under new commissioners saying the current state of affairs at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC cannot attract public trust, anymore.
The political commentator as well as senior counsel added that all the seven commissioners at the electoral body had exposed each other’s rot in public and therefore difficult to run any fair and credible election in future.
Kanjama who was speaking this on NTV show on Saturday August 27 observed that Mr. Wafula Chabukati was running an already crippled organisation and wondered why he was still hanging on it.
“The current Commission as constituted is fundamentally crippled, it cannot have the level of confidence required to carry out a repeat election,” Kanjama remarked.
He, therefore, said should the Supreme Court judges decide to order a fresh election, it will be prudent to outline how and under who can that be done in a democratic manner.
This, he noted, will be ordered through a ‘consequential directive’ on how the repeat exercise must be conducted.
As of now, he added that nothing substantive can come out of the commission due to the fact that there is an irreconcilable crack dividing the Commission right in the middle.
