Wednesday, August 31, 2022 –Lawyer Zehrabanu Janmohamed today stole the show at the Supreme Court when she was presenting her argument on behalf of her client, Mr. John Njoroge Kamau
In the submission she accurately delivered on behalf of the 2nd Petition, Senior Counsel Janmohamed managed to demonstrate her legal prowess and gift of gap while tearing apart the electoral Independent and Boundaries Commission IEBC Chairman, Wafula Chebukati.
She took issue with the manner in which Chebukati had conducted himself throughout the election and tallying period before eventually awarding William Ruto the president-elect certificate; this despite her fellow commissioners led by Juliana Cherera having a problem with the process.
It was quite an impressive show of might that made everybody at the Supreme Court chambers, offices and at home to follow through as she spilled legal jargon without too much struggle.
Another brilliant lawyer who was once an intern at JAB Orengo Advocates at Lawyer James Orengo’s Nairobi law firm, was Ms Julie Soweto who also impressed Azimio supporters throughout her court session. She had a good master of law together with a free flow of ideas.
It will be remembered that back in 2017, she was among a flurry group of sharp female lawyers who left an indelible mark at the Supreme Court during yet another Presidential election petition which had been filed by Raila Odinga of then National Super Alliance NASA.
We learned that at that time, she was working alongside Lawyer Harun Ndubi who had been sought to represent activists Njonjo Mue and Khalef Khalifa.
Other top minds who impressed today include, Lead Counsel James Aggrey Orengo, Senior Counsel Pheroze Nowrojee, Senior Counsel Philip Murgor, and Advocate Paul Mwangi all appearing for the petitioners.
