Friday, September 9, 2022 –Top journalists in the country have asked President-elect William Ruto to fulfill the promises he made to millions of electorates during their Kenya Kwanza countrywide campaigns.
The journalists argued that Ruto and his alliance members had promised a quick change for the nation and that is now a burden which he must fulfill or risk receiving a backlash, in few days to come.
They mentioned that Ruto promised to meet certain expectations within his first 100 days in office and that he cannot run away from it.
News Gang’s Linus Kakai, for instance, asked the new president to now work on reducing the high cost of living for many hustlers around the country who cannot afford a single meal on their table.
“The new administration will have no time for a honeymoon or even the usual Kenyan thing of so-called homecoming parties. With the cost of living visiting untold suffering upon countless Kenyan households, the new government must hit the road running,” Linus stated.
He argued that, immediately the swearing in is complete at Kasarani Stadium on Tuesday September 13, The UDA administration has a herculean task of working on creating a better living environment for every citizen than it is today.
He also added that as this change picks up, there will be equally a need to fast-track unity of the entire nation following a divided election outcome witnessed a few days ago.
His colleague also political reporter-cum-editor Francis Gachuri noted that all Kenyans as of now have high expectations from the Ruto-Gachagua administration; attributing this to their own charged up campaign pledges.
“The new government will be tested from the first day for promises ranging from growing the economy, creating opportunities for the unemployed, especially the youth, improving health services, reducing the cost of living, rule of law and constitutionalism, respect for institutions, among other promises,” Gachuri said.
Ms Yvonne Okwara, on her part, challenged the Raila Odinga-led Azimio la Umoja wing to put to check the new government and that this is a duty they should not relent on.
