Saturday, September 10, 2022 –Race to succeed the 5th Council of Governor CoG Chairman Martin Wambora has picked up with two key figures already showing interest.
Nairobi County Governor Johnson Sakaja and his counterpart Anne Waiguru from Kirinyaga County have both expressed their desire to lead the giant governors’ councils organization in the country.
The two candidates from United Democratic Alliance UDA Party side will be facing-off with Azimio la Umoja’s Joseph Ole Lenku of Kajiado County and Mutula Kilonzo Junior from Makueni County.
Also on this particular list is former Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka now elected Bungoma County governor.
Homenews.co.ke has learnt that both sides (Kenya Kwanza and Azimio la Umoja) have 23 governors each and, therefore, an independent governor of Taita Taveta County Mr. Andrew Mwadime may turn out to be the only deciding factor in this race.
The election of the new governor, according to a notice seen by this writer, will be taking place on Wednesday September 14 to Saturday September 17 where deputies will also be elected.
This noble exercise will only start after the president-elect William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachgua are sworn into office on Tuesday September 13.
Both Mr. Gachagua and his boss William Ruto will attend the conference that will see the 6th CoG Chair sworn into office.
Former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto and Kakamega’s Wycliffe Oparanya also had their stint in the CoG office.
