Monday, September 12, 2022 –Two time president, Uhuru Kenyatta, has today Monday September 12 wished well his successor William Ruto who will be taking over mandate to govern the country from tomorrow.
Uhuru, while delivering his official speech at the Statehouse Kenya today during his meeting with Ruto, said he is ready to hand over the mantle to the final winner of the August 9 polls as a sign of what democracy requires.
“Tomorrow, I will emulate that honoured tradition and handover the mantle to my successor Dr William Samoei Ruto. In my service to you, I was supported by the Cabinet, Principal Secretaries. Most importantly, you the people of Kenya walked with me all step of the way.
“This afternoon, I hosted the incoming President here at State House. The transition process commenced on 12th August and the doors of State have been open to the technical tams from the office of the President elect to facilitate a smooth transition,” stated the retiring Head of State.
Uhuru, therefore, promised to show up tomorrow at the Moi Sports Center Kasarani to complete the public handing over of all the instruments of power to the new office holders.
“I will tomorrow, before God and my fellow countrymen, handover the instruments of power to our new president at the Moi International Sports Center Kasarani and with that, the fourth administration will come to an end and the tenure of the fifth administration will begin.
“My family and I join all Kenyans in wishing the very best to our next President Dr. William Samoei Ruto and extending to him our warmest congratulations for receiving the mandate of Kenyans to lead us as our 5th president,” added Mr. Kenyatta.
This now puts to rest the concerns that Kenyatta would be embarrassed to pass power to his deputy with whom they have not been in good terms.
Ruto and Kenyatta severed ways in 2018; a year after winning their second term in office. This would see Uhuru make friendship with his nemesis Raila Odinga; what then seemed not to go well with a section of leaders allied to William Ruto.
Since that time, it has been a game of name calling throughout the period until Ruto was recently elected to replace Kenyatta.
Ruto will be assuming full control of the country from tomorrow Tuesday September 13 after his official State inauguration.
