Tuesday, September 13, 2022 –President William Ruto has revealed his plans on the controversial Competency Based Curriculum CBC education system.

In his inauguration speech today Tuesday September 13 at Kasarani Stadium, Dr. Ruto promised to give parents and other stakeholders a chance to air their concerns on the system so that the whole programme could be reviewed.

He shared the plight of parents across the country saying it will only make sense when they are also heard and their views taken into consideration.

The programme has since reached a stage where the first batch of learners are joining the Junior Secondary School JSS level.

“Public participation is critical in this matter. I will establish an education reform task force in the presidency that will be launched in the coming weeks.

“The task force will be in line with the constitutional demands of public participation,” Ruto added.

This task force, according to the new president, will collect views across the country and harmonize them into one key item to better the programme.

He also assured that an important step from his government will be to make sure there is a smooth transition from 8-4-4 to CBS so that this is not burdensome to parents.

Ruto was speaking this just days after the outgoing Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha urged him not to scrap the curriculum because government and parents had both invested heavily into it.
