Friday, September 16, 2022 –President William Ruto has revoked the ongoing subsidy on maize flour in the country saying his government will not be taking that route anymore.
Speaking in Naivasha today during their Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary Group meeting to strategize on how to capture House seats, the new president noted that his government will nolonger subsidize consumables because his long term plan on agriculture, health and housing is in progress and to be revealed soon.
In what appeared to be a direct shift in policies of his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta, Dr. Ruto mentioned that tax payers had been burdened with sh 7 billion every month in fake subsidy programmes that only existed in the air and money shared among cartels.
“We are not going to subsidize consumables. That will not happen anymore. Because I was being briefed by the ministry of Agriculture and I found out that every month tax payers were losing sh 7 billion which if it were used in fertilizer, there could have been a completely different ballgame,” Ruto firmly stated.
He added that his administration will nolonger tolerate wastage of public resources as well as corruption but instead focus its energy on supporting producers.
This development is coming barely a day after he also suspended controversial fuel subsidy programme.
