Saturday, September 17, 2022 –Second time Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has clinched the Council of Governor CoG seat taking it from Martin Wambora who has since retired.
The soft-spoken United Democratic Alliance UDA Party governor who was running against Kajiado County governor Joseph Ole Lenku won the seat with a majority
Ms Waiguru attracted a majority of votes against Ole Lenku of Azimio la Umoja coalition in an election exercise that took place today Saturday September 17.
In her bid to win the seat, she had attributed her ability to govern the devolution organization to her past experience in the devolution ministry.
Following her victory today, several leaders among them, Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire and Senior Counsel Abdullahi Ahmednassir have already promised to support her 2-year leadership.
“Congratulations @AnneWaiguru…you will do GREAT JOB!” the lawyer stated on the win while Governor Cecily Mbarire said:
“We continue to shatter the glass ceiling day by day. Lead us to the next level my sister.
This victory means she will be mandated to chair the Intergovernmental Budget Executive Council which is headed by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The new winner will also ensure there is a good working relationship between governors and the executive as well as facilitate capacity building within the devolution organization.
Ms Waiguru previously served as the Council’s first female vice chairperson from December 2017 to January 2019.
